ISLAMABAD, May 10, 2017: The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarter. The following decisions were taken during the Executive Board Meeting (EBM).
The Executive Board (EBM) decided to file corruption reference against Rasul Bux Phulpoto, Ex-MD/CEO, PHA Foundation and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority by appointing 400 to 500 illegal employees.
The EBM decided to authorize three (3) investigations. First investigation was authorized against Dr. Zafar iqbal, Ex-Vice Chancellor/ Management of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Sub Campus Lahore and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, obtained pecuniary advantages through corrupt and dishonest means, opening of illegal Sub-Campus of FUUAST in Lahore.
Second investigation was authorized against officers/officials of DAD Division, District Shaheed Benazirabad. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, embezzlement of Government funds in awarding and execution of contract namely pilot project of Cement Concrete Lining of Rohri Main Canal from RD-616 to RD-647. Thus caused a loss of Rs. 580 /-million to the national exchequer.
Third investigation was authorized against officers/officials of CDA. In this case sent by PAC, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority by stopping a project without completion of codal formalities, non recovery of mobilization advance and wasteful expenditure on the construction of a project, namely Cultural Complex at Shakarparian, Islamabad. Thus caused a loss of Rs. 168.904 /-million to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board (EBM) decided to authorize three (03) inquiries. First inquiry was authorized against Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor Agricultural University, Faisalabad. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, financial embezzlement, violation in recruitment etc.
Second inquiry was authorized against Muhammad Asif s/o Fayaz Hussain and others on account of Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) of Rs. 25.247 billion referred by State Bank of Pakistan under section 31-D of NAO 1999.
Third inquiry was authorized against Wali Muhammad Sheikh, Provincial Highways Division, Sukkur and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for assets beyond known sources of Income and misuse of authority.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to close two inquiries. These pertains to inquiry against Syed Mardan Ali Shah, Minister for Population and welfare, Government of Sindh and inquiry against Masood Anwer Chughtai, Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Department & others due to lack of incriminating evidence.
At the end, Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said that NAB is committed to eradicate corruption by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy. He directed all officers/officials of NAB to put in their best efforts in conduct of complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations against corrupt in accordance with law, transparently and on merit.
