ISLAMABAD, March 05, 2018: The Executive Board Meeting of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) held under the Chairmanship of Honorable Justice Mr. Jeved Iqbal Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarters in which EBM approved various supplementary references, inquiries and investigations against various persons allegedly accused in the corruption, misuse of authority and doling out benefits to favorites. It was clarified that all inquiries and investigations were started on alleged charges which were not yet proved. NAB will also provide chance to accused persons to clarify their position after initiating the inquiries and ivestigations against them as per law of the land. The decisions of Executive Board are as under:
The EBM authorized filing of supplementary reference against Nawaz Sharif and others against their alleged corruption in Flagship Investment limited and 15 companies. EBM also approved filing supplementary reference against Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and others against their alleged corruption in Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfiled Properties.
The executive board approved inquiry against the owner of 15 companies in Panama scandal Zulfikar Bukhari son of Wajid Bokhari. Bukhari is accused of having assets beyond income. Another inquiry has been authorized against the management of Rawalpindi Railways Employees Cooperative Housing Society and others. The management and others are accused of illegal occupation on Raliway lands and non-payment of arrears of Rawalpindi Railway Employees Cooperative Housing Society causing losses to national exchequer.
Executive Board has authorized the inquiry against officers of Civil Aviation and others for awarding contract to Messers Hassas Construction illegally, causing losses to the national to the tune of Rs 664.405 million. Another inquiry was authorized against the management of National Testing Services (NTS) and Health Department, Government of Punjab for arranging undue benefits to choice candidates in non-transparent examinations and alleged corruption. The inquiry was authorized against Dr Asim Mehmood, Mehmood ul Hassan and others for having assets beyond income. NAB has received this complaint from State Bank of Pakistan regarding transactions of dubious amounts.
The Executive Board has approved inquiry against the owners of Chaudhry Sugar Mills Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Kulsoom Nawaz, Marriyum Nawaz for having assets beyond known sources of income. The complaint has been received from FMU, State Bank of Pakistan regarding their involvement in suspicious transactions.
EBM also approved inquiry against Maqsood Ahmed, the owner of Maqsood and Company and others for having assets beyond known sources of income. This complaint had also received from FMU, State Bank of Pakistan owing to the involvement of the accused in suspicious transactions. Another supplementary reference was approved against Ishaq Dar for having assets beyond know sources of income. The board approved inquiry against Ahad Cheema and others due to the allegations of corruption and corrupt practices and abuse of authority.
An inquiry was approved against the management of Paragon City Private Limited. They have been accused of allegedly looting the people and swindling them. Executive Board has approved yet other inquiry against Bashir Dawood, Marriyum Dawood and others for allegedly having offshore company in Panama scandal.
EBM authorized inquiry against Managing Director Port Qasim Authority Abdul Sattar Dero and others. They have been accused of having an offshore as being said in Panama Scandal. EB, NAB has approved inquiry against officers, officials of Sui Southern Gas Pipeline Company (SSGC), Pakistan Steel Mills and others for disconnecting gas connection of Steel Mills illegally causing billion of rupee losses to national kitty.
Another inquiry would be conducted against the management of Pakistan Steel Mills. They have been accused of causing Rs 7.5 billion losses to national kitty by illegally withdrawing Provident Funds and Gratuity of employees. The Executive Board accorded approval to conduct inquiry against KDA officers and others for allegedly changing welfare plots into residential and commercial plots, inflicting billion of rupee losses to national exchequer.
The executive board approved investigation against Yasir Afindi, Line Manager Shell Pakistan Limited, Chairman / Director Messers Aerolube Private Limited, Arshad Jalil and others for selling defence quota aviation fuel to open market which inflicted Rs 2,370 million losses to the national exchequer. The executive board approved inquiry against Senator Usman Saifullah and others for having over 34 offshore companies as reported in Panama.
Another inquiry will be conducted against CM, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khalid Pervaiz and others for leasing out 275 acre forest land of Malam Jabba to Siemens Group of Companies by abuse of authority and corruption. The illegal leasing caused heavy losses to national exchequer. EBM has also approved inquiry against KPK officers allowing illegal use of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Helicopter to Imran Khan causing losses to national kitty.
Investigations were also approved against former Director General Quetta Development Authority Noor Ahmed Pirkani and others for illegal allotment of plots and China cutting of Chilten Housing Scheme, Quetta. The EB, NAB authorized investigations against former provincial food minister Balochistan Azhar Hussain and others for alleged corruption causing Rs 211.848 million losses to national kitty in the purchase of wheat in Pishin.
NAB also authorized inquiry against former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Anusha Rehman and former Chairman PTA Dr Ismail Shah in illegally awarding Next Generation Mobile Services (NGSMA) contract.
After EBM, addressing to NAB officers Honorable Justice Mr. Javed Iqbal has said that corruption is a cancer which should be eliminated altogether. The elimination of corruption is national responsibility of NAB officers. They should burn their midnight oil for fulfilling their responsibilities for making the country corruption free. He directed the officers to take the inquiries, investigations and scrutinizes to their logical concluding within the mandated period of 10 months. No laxity would be tolerated in this regard.
Chairman said NAB is strictly adhering to its policy of ‘Accountability for All.’ The first and last affiliation of NAB is with the country and its people. NAB officers should perform their duties with utmost dedications, honesty and without caring about any duress.
